Manhattan
Built in 1879 by John Roach & Sons Shipyard, the S.S. Manhattan was owned by Old Dominion Steamship Company. On November 20th, 1889, this American passenger/cargo ship sank after a collision with the schooner AGNES MANNING, 8 miles from the Fenwick Shoal Light. Eleven passengers and crew lost their lives while enroute from New York to West Point, Virginia. This wreck was positively identified in 2009 by Andrew Nagle after recovering the builders plaque on the RV Explorer.
